**Ahmedabad's Rental Reality Deserves More Than Assumptions.**
In May 2024, industry estimates reported around **80,000 PG residents and 4,000+ providers** in Ahmedabad.
By September 2025, AMC had identified **401 PG units** and issued notices to **385** for lacking society and police NOCs.
These figures come from different reports and cannot be directly compared. But they raise an important question:
**Do we have a complete, transparent picture of Ahmedabad's PG and rental ecosystem?**
Before framing rules that affect thousands of people, shouldn't we measure housing demand, affordability, safety complaints, available alternatives and the impact on genuine operators?
Safety matters. Residents' rights matter. So do tenants' housing needs and operators' livelihoods.
A city cannot solve a housing problem without understanding the housing market.
**Rules should be based on evidence. Enforcement should be proportionate. And affordable accommodation should not become an afterthought.**
